About:
Built in 1831 and nestled in a historic Logan, Ohio neighborhood, The Bowen House is a nonprofit cultural arts and events center dedicated to enriching the Hocking Hills region through diverse programs and historic preservation.
Originally built by English immigrant John Rochester, the home has been a hub for social and cultural gatherings for over 170 years. His wife, Eveline Tufts, envisioned the space for musical events, a tradition continued by their daughter Lucy Bowen, a talented musician and longtime church organist. The home’s parlor once hosted music lessons, discussions, and community gatherings—a legacy that thrives today.
The Bowen House remained in the Rochester-Bowen family until Mary Louise Bowen, its last resident, bequeathed it to the First Presbyterian Church to serve the community. Now leased by the church, it stands as Hocking Hills’ primary arts center, celebrating local artists, artisans, and cultural heritage.
